If you are doing laundry for the first time and you aren't sure which end of the washing machine is up then here are some tips to help you get started.
- Sort your clothes by color and material. Some clothes need to be washed in cold and others in hot so it is good to divide your clothes up (see number 5)
- Read the label! Some clothes have special laundry instructions (including dry clean only) so be sure to look at the tag before washing
- Pretreat stains. If you get a stain on something it is best to pretreat it if you can't get it into the washing machine right away.
- Don't overload the machine. Your clothes need room to move around and they won't get as clean as they should if you overstuff your machine
- Choose the right water temperature. You want to use hot water on such items as towels and linens. Warm water is best for light colored clothes and cool water is good for colored and dark clothes.
- Don't leave wet clothes in the washer too long. Dry your laundry as soon as it's done because wet, soggy clothes don't stay clean
- Air dry or tumble dry your clothes.
